Today we went to the Aloun Farms Pumpkin Patch in Kapolei.
They only have 4 Public Picking days in October, and we wanted to be there the first day! So we woke up early this morning, headed out the door (hoping the rain would stop) at got there at 9:30.
When we got there, the kids immediately saw Ashley and her two girls standing waiting for someone she knew (i emailed a bunch of people to come). So she was happy to see me, and I was happy to have a friend to pick pumpkins with. Ashley's husband just left for Iraq a week ago, for his THIRD time, so she was happy to have some adult conversation :o) I love her, so it was fine.
Here's a picture of all the people searching for their perfect pumpkin:
How many of you go to the pumpkin patch in shorts and a t-shirt?
Ashley's youngest, Mia, took a quick liking to McKenzie (as most little kids do), and they went off searching together for their perfect pumpkin together:
Can ya see em way out there??
Oh, Nathan found one!!!
It's PERFECT!
Natalie and Mia found a nice rotten pumpkin to play in!
Hey look! This one is still attached on the vine!!
Natalie found her perfect pumpkin:
He said,
"Look Mom! Nanny McPhee!"
Kenzie found a BIG perfect pumpkin!
Matthew even found a WATERMELON amidst all the pumpkins
So they all found their perfect pumpkin.
This is LAST YEAR'S pumpkin patch picture...
...and THIS YEAR'S pumpkin patch picture:
We're even wearing the same clothes!!
Most everything is the same except for our new adopted daughter, Mia ;o)
Here we are trudging through the dirt and mud to go pay for our pumpkins!
They were only $5 each!
Some people would say "What?! You paid $5 for a PUMPKIN??"
It beats paying $9.95 for ONE at Wal Mart!
Pumpkins in Hawaii are NOTHING like pumpkins on the mainland.
Aaaannnddd... you have to wait till the day before Halloween to carve them, or else they'll rot like crazy!
A Kodak moment in front of the Onion sign:
After we paid for our pumpkins, we took them to the car, and then came back for a HAY RIDE!!
Here they are crawling all over the pumpkins while we wait for our turn on the hay ride:
Whoa! He fell!
Natalie fell too:
Look at dirty little Mia! She loves the dirt!
The Hay Ride:
There they go! Hopefully we can be next!
YAY! It's finally our turn!
Here we are on the Hay Ride!
Oh, and today was a monumental day in Matthew's life.....
Today he got HIS FIRST ZIT!
I begged him to let me take a picture of it, and he didn't want me to, but then I told him I'd buy him a drink after the hay ride, and he agreed. Sigh.... my boy is growing in to a zitty teenager! LOL!
Our tractor driver for the hay ride:
I think I remember the lady saying that Aloun Farms has something like 3,600 acres!! Holy Cow! I wonder how long it'll be before someone buys the land to build houses on it!?
We had a really fun morning at the pumpkin patch. We saw the rest of our friends standing in line for the hay ride as we were getting off. We're supposed to all go over to Maggie's for a BBQ, but GUESS WHO'S SICK NOW????
NATHAN!
Thanks for sharing your germs Kenzie... Looks like this bug is gonna make it's rounds.
At least it's just a 24 hour fever. Out of all sicknesses, I rather like this one :o)
