On the Road to Recovery....

HAPPY ALOHA TUESDAY!

Matthew went back in to see his Orthopedic Surgeon (Dr. Kinsler) this morning, and he got his temporary cast off !! He got 3 pins surgically put in his elbow to hold the bone in place, and this is what his pins look like:

(Warning: Graphic Content! Do not view during a meal... ESPECIALLY the last picture!)

He just got his cast off! Look at his swollen little elbow!

Poor Baby

his 3 pins sticking out of his elbow

Here comes the gross one.....

EEEEEEEW!!

He didn't like his pins!
They made him feel nervous.
(see his face in the picture below)
He started to cry a little bit,
but once they covered them up again,
he was okay.

First they put little pads around his pins,
wrapped his elbow real good with cotton,
and then put a little cotton sleeve on his arm:

Then, they put a regular ol' fiberglass, hard cast on:
(look at his face now! the ugly pins are all covered up!)

THEN, they wrapped it in another cast,
in Matthew's color of choice... GREEN!!

Here's Matthew with his brand new GREEN cast!!
He's the coolest kid you know!

His Doctor let me take pictures of the x-rays that were taken. So here's a before and after of his break:
(BRACE yourself! It was a bad break!!)

BEFORE...

AFTER!!!

SO much better! He goes in on December 21st to get his PINS OUT (eew!) and a new cast put on that will stay on for 6 weeks. Then he'll be HEALED!!

Until then, it's showers with plastic bags for him! And NO RECESS :o( Poor kid!
