My day started bright and early at 4:00am today!!! I had to be at the church by 4:45 because Wahiawa 1st and 3rd Ward's Youth Temple Assignment was at 6:00am, and it takes about 45 minutes to drive to Laie where the temple is. That's where the youth of our church (ages 12-18) get to do baptisms in the name of people who died without getting to be baptized.

It was my first time going with the youth, and it was a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go again next time!
~NATHAN UPDATE~
Things have not improved since the last update I posted about him. If anything, they've gotten worse. So when I got home from the temple this morning around 9:30, I came in and looked at Nathan and saw that he looked terrible, and said, "That's it! I'm taking him to the ER to get rehydrated!" So I went up and changed out of my church clothes, and then grabbed Nathan and we went to the Acute Care Clinic here on Schofield.

There were a lot of people in there when we got there, so I knew there was gonna be a loooong wait. Nathan threw up 6 times in the waiting room, which wasn't helping his dehydration. He hadn't eaten, drank, or went pee in 3 days, AND he was throwing up regularly. Not good!
They called us back, and took his vitals. His FEVER was gone, which is great, because we quit giving him his Tylenol with Codeine thinking that it was making him sick. But then he got on the scale! He weighed 35.9 lbs. the day of the surgery, and today he weighed 34.2!! You could see every bone in his body! They called him 'Skeletor' in the ER because he looked like a skeleton. And I just kept telling them over and over that he's dehydrated and needs iv fluids.
So they sent me back out into the waiting room, and shortly after we got called back (skipping 2 people ahead of us... i guess we were higher priority), and they put us in a room. That was nice so then Nathan could throw up in private instead of in front of the whole waiting room with me shielding him with a blanket.
Here's poor dehydrated little Nathan. This is what he's looked like for the past 3 days!
Shortly after we got into a room, they moved us out and into a bed so they could give him iv fluids (like I said, dang it!). The nurse said she knew he was sick because he hardly put up a fight when she put the iv needle in his arm! So they got the IV in him and then gave him an anti-nausea medicine. That helped. They said they were gonna keep giving him fluids until he peed. His IV bag was hooked to this thing called a "Buretrol"

Nathan had 3 of those little Buretrol's full of fluid before he had to go pee. And then he only peed enough to fill up the urine sample cup. When they checked his urine, they just confirmed what I already knew.. that he was dehydrated. DUH! He also said that his urine had ketones in it which means that his body is burning fat. We all know that Nathan doesn't have any fat to burn! His poor kidneys weren't getting any fluid. And I guess the kidneys will produce a certain amount of urine per day no matter what. So if they're not getting enough fluid, they get it from somewhere else, like the blood stream. And that's bad news because then the toxins can get into the blood stream. That's not the case with Nathan, but I'm glad we rehydrated him when we did.
It didn't take him very long to start perking up. He was more alert, started talking more, and even started asking for food! So they gave him a blue Otter Pop, and the nice nurse went to Burger King for lunch and brought Nathan back an applesauce. How nice! The doctor said that was the best time to try to feed him because he had taken the anti-nausea medicine. So I fed him as much as he'd take.
Then he asked if he could play the video game:
It was great to see the real Nathan coming back!
The Doctor also looked in Nathan's throat and said that there was a tick layer of yellow crap lining his throat. I guess they expect SOME yellow crap, but not a lot like Nathan has. And it make his breath smell like CRAAAAP! Seriously! Like he's got a rotten turd sitting on is tongue 24/7! it's TERRIBLE! So he said he has a surface infection in his throat, which is expected, but he wants us to make a follow up appointment at the ENT (ear nose and throat) Clinic on Monday. So the fun's not over yet...
Nathan had a total of 4 of those buretrol tubes, and 6 hours later, we got to go home! Nathan was back to normal!! He asked for mashed potatoes, so we went to Popeyes before we went home to get him some mashed potatoes and a biscuit with honey. And Gatorade too.
Here's Nathan all hydrated back at home with his feast of applesauce, mashed potatoes, a biscuit with honey, and Gatorade:
Now is when we instill the importance of drinking fluids to Nathan. We remind him of how he felt before and after. So he agrees to drink his Gatorade when we ask him. And he hasn't thrown up since he got the IV. Doesn't his last picture look SO much better than the first one??
So now things can go one of two ways; he can either turn the corner and get better within the next 48 hours, or he can get worse and dehydrate again, and in that case we'll take him down to Tripler and he'll have to be admitted and hooked up to an iv until he recovers. Let's hope he just gets better and we can be done with the iv's!!

Nathan - WOW, poor baby! Please let me know if you need any help with anything. I'm a sucker for sick kids, puke doesn't bother me. Missed you at church today!
